Established in 2001, the FSC operates within a robust legal framework comprising the Financial Services Act, Securities Act, Insurance Act, Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act and Financial Crimes Commission Act amongst others. Its mandate includes licensing, regulating, monitoring, and supervising financial institutions.

The FSC's core objectives are to:

  • Foster a thriving financial sector characterized by fairness, efficiency, and transparency.
  • Protect investors from financial crimes and misconduct.
  • Maintain a stable and sound financial system

The FSC employs a risk-based regulatory approach, concentrating its efforts on areas posing the greatest risks to the financial system. Enforcement serves as a crucial tool within this strategy, acting as a deterrent and ensuring compliance with regulations. By judiciously using its enforcement powers, the FSC effectively contributes to achieving its overall regulatory goals.
